Unicloth Goes Solar

Universal Clothing to be Powered with Solar Energy Starting in 2022

In partnership with Modest Solar, 498 PV Panels will be installed on new warehouse roof to power 90% of Universal Clothing’s energy demand.

Universal Clothing Ltd, a leading supplier of used clothing with worldwide distribution of products, has taken a significant step towards sustainability by choosing to install a solar PV system at its premises in Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai. The rooftop on-grid PV system, which will be designed and installed by Modest Company, will operate under DEWA’s Shams Dubai net metering program. The 231.57 kWp system will generate 371 MWh of clean energy annually to be used for self-consumption, thereby offsetting over 500 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Under the agreement, Modest Company is responsible for design, supply, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of the PV system while obtaining permits and fulfilling requirements of all relevant authorities. As specialists in metal roof waterproofing, Modest Company gives utmost importance to roof upkeep before any modification on the roof surface. Therefore, prior to installing the system, a specialized metal roof waterproofing system offered by TOPPS Products USA will be applied on the entire rooftop to ensure a trouble-free roof throughout the life of the PV system.

“To support Universal Clothing in their long-term plan for sustainability, Modest Solar is proud to be selected as the preferred partner to execute this landmark project. Combined with our 30+ years of experience in metal roof waterproofing in UAE, Modest Company offers its customers the option of going solar while keeping the clients’ best interests at the forefront. We take pride in our long-term partnerships with key clients like Universal Clothing and look forward to working with them for many years into the future.” said Askary Khimjee, Director at Modest Company LLC.

“Right from the concept up to handover, the whole process is carried out by our own team of experts without involvement of subcontractors. We undertake the entire scope, from technical design to installation and maintenance of components, giving optimum value to our clients with no interruption to their activities.”

Commenting on the decision to go solar, Firoz Nasser, owner of Universal Clothing said “sustainability has always been at the forefront of our culture at Universal Clothing; via reuse & recycling of clothing, our goal is to push the world to reduce its impact on the environment. Now, by powering our operations with renewable energy, we have taken one step further into becoming as efficient and eco-friendly as possible.”

Muhammadali Virji, owner & general manager of Universal Clothing, says “over the past few years, our experience with Modest Company as a roof waterproofing partner has been excellent. So, when they proposed to install a solar PV system on our premises and promised to provide us an efficient system, all-inclusive maintenance and guaranteed returns on our investment, the decision was a quick and easy one to make.”

Modest Company LLC, established in 1975, began its metal roof waterproofing division in 1990 and has since built up a prestigious client base in the UAE. The company has now added renewable energy to its portfolio and looks to offer clients combined waterproofing plus solar energy solutions.
